E- Safety Ambassadors

What is E-safety?

The internet and online technology provide new opportunities for children’s learning and growth, but it can also expose them to new types of risks. E-Safety is the safe and responsible use of technology. This includes the use of the internet and also other means of communication using electronic media (text messages, gaming, social media and email).

Why we have E-Safety Ambassadors:

Our ambassadors were elected by their peers in class, at the beginning of the school year. Each ambassador presented to their class, explaining why they should be elected as an e-safety ambassador. This develops children’s understanding of British Values (democracy). They also understand that with democracy comes responsibility.

The E-Safety ambassadors meet every month to discuss any concerns or issues regarding e-safety; discover information about children’s online behaviours; identify ways to keep our peers safe and plan for events e.g. Safer Internet Day. These are some of our other roles and responsibilities:

  • Arrange themed online safety assemblies.
  • Monitor the online safety displays in the classroom i.e. ensure that the SMART rules are on display.
  • Once a month, they need to consult the views of all children and see if there are any concerns or issues, we need to be aware of.
  • Help the e-safety leader identify any areas of concern on social media, which may need to be mentioned in assemblies.
  • Meet with the Designated Safeguarding Lead termly, to update her with information regarding online safety in the school.

Our E-Safety Ambassadors ensure:

  • We follow the school’s online procedures for keeping children safe and teach them about online safety in and outside of school.
  • We find ways to educate and support pupils and parents about safe and sensible online behaviour.
