We are excited to share an update on the Sensory Snack sessions (based on SOS feeding approach) that we are running in the ARP. Currently, our students are learning to be Food Scientists as part of our approach to expanding their comfort with different foods.
We are using the Food Science Steps to Eating, with a focus on the visual tolerance of food. The learning objectives for this period include:
- Looking at food when it is directly in the child’s space
- Being at the table with the food just outside the child’s space
- Being at the table with the food halfway across the table
- Being at the table with the food on the other side of the table
- Being in the same room as the food
At this stage, we are still working on visual exposure, helping children feel more comfortable with food around them.
Home Activity: The Orange Food Challenge
We encourage you to continue this learning at home using the SOS Feeding Ladder. This term, we are exploring “orange” foods! You can introduce a variety of textures and consistencies, focusing on orange-coloured foods such as:
🟠 Orange drinks
🟠 Carrots (cooked and raw)
🟠 Orange peppers
🟠 Orange cheese balls
🟠 Orange licorice
🟠 Apricots
🟠 Orange jelly
Try to provide a mix of textures, from hard to watery, while keeping the focus on the orange colour.
We would love to see how your child engages with food at home! Please feel free to email us or upload photos and videos on Evisense to share their food experiments.
Thank you for your support in making this learning experience successful. Have a wonderful weekend!
