Air Resistance

Year 5 have been experimenting with air resistance by building parachutes of three different sizes. Our key question was: “Does the surface area of a parachute affect how fast it falls?” The children discovered ‘The wider the surface area, the longer the parachute took to reach the floor’. This is because the bigger parachute caught more air and created a stronger resistance in comparison to the smaller parachute.
