Celebrating Black History Month in Our ARP

This October, our ARP pupils at Thomas Arnold Primary School have been celebrating Black History Month through stories, art, music and sensory exploration.

We have been learning about Rosa Parks, using creative bus-themed activities to explore fairness, kindness and treating everyone with respect. Through the book Don’t Touch My Hair!, pupils have also explored identity, celebrated differences and learned about respecting personal boundaries.

Pupils created their own ‘Jars of Dreams’, expressing their hopes and aspirations creatively and celebrating the importance of everyone’s dreams.

Sensory trays, colourful beads, mark-making and hair-design activities offered different ways for pupils to participate, express themselves and develop their fine motor and communication skills. Music and creative exploration helped make the learning engaging and accessible.

Linked to our ‘Ourselves’ topic, these experiences help pupils develop a positive sense of identity and an appreciation of others. We are proud of their creativity and curiosity as we continue to build a school community where everyone feels valued and included.

Have a great weekend
