Thomas Arnold Primary School

SEND

At Thomas Arnold Primary School we welcome all individuals into our inclusive, nurturing and vibrant environment. We believe every pupil is entitled to achieve their full academic and social potential. Every pupil is individual and unique and we champion pupils to be the best version of themselves and achieve success. We strongly believe pupils have learning differences rather than difficulties and we aim to identify, assess and plan for these differences to ensure every pupil is well supported and accessing a high-quality education.

We aim to:

  • Ensure all pupils are happy and thriving in school
  • Enable all pupils to access the learning through an adapted approach
  • Teach our pupils life skills in order to live independently and responsibly
  • Teach our pupils to understand the rights of other people
  • Ensure all pupils experience success and reach their full potential
  • Have high expectations for all pupils
  • Develop and deliver a thematic, progressive and bespoke curriculum
  • Develop and create an environment with outstanding behaviour and safety for all

These aims and objectives are established through the following documents:

  • SEND Policy
  • SEND Information Report
  • Accessibility Plan
  • Barking and Dagenham Local Offer

Our School’s SEND Information Report explains what we offer children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) throughout their time with us, including how we support them on to the next stage of their education. You may also want to read our SEND policy; a document that gives more detail about our statutory duties and day to day procedures – for example how we plan the most effective support for children with SEND and how we review their progress.

Barking and Dagenham Local Authority also publishes a Local Offer on its website. This sets out a wide range of information about the specialist services, schools, colleges and organisations that can provide support and information for families of children and young people with SEND. It explains the procedures for requesting an assessment for an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
