Year 2 Explore the Wonderful World of Habitats!

Year 2 had a dino-mite day out at the Natural History Museum, where we explored the fascinating world of animals, their habitats and some rather enormous creatures! From towering dinosaur skeletons to incredible fossils, there was so much to see that we hardly knew where to look first. Some of the dinosaurs were so huge that we were very glad they were no longer roaming around our playground! 🦕

We became wildlife detectives, discovering how animals survive in different habitats, from the hottest deserts to the deepest oceans. We learnt about the food, water, shelter and space animals need to survive, and discussed how different creatures are specially adapted to their environments. We even discovered some amazing animal facts that left us saying, “WOW!” (and occasionally, “EWW!”).

Our visit linked perfectly to our learning this term about habitats, helping us build on our knowledge and understanding in the most exciting way possible. We shared our ideas, asked brilliant questions and explored the museum like a team of expert scientists. There were so many fascinating things to discover that we could have spent all day there — although our feet might have had something to say about that!

From giant bones to tiny fossils, Year 2 had a fantastic time learning about the natural world. We returned to school full of excitement, amazing facts and perhaps a few budding palaeontologists! It was a roar-some day of discovery, exploration and learning outside the classroom. Who knew learning about habitats could be so much fun?
