To celebrate Black History Month, Year 2 have been exploring the incredible artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, a celebrated Black American artist known for his bold colours, expressive lines, crowns and graffiti-inspired artwork. We discovered how he used art to express his ideas, share messages and celebrate identity.
Inspired by his unique style, the children created their own vibrant masterpieces, experimenting with colours, symbols and patterns. They designed Basquiat-inspired crowns featuring an adjective to describe themselves, such as kind, brave, creative and unique, celebrating the wonderful qualities that make each of them special. We also transformed our doors with colourful, graffiti-inspired designs!
Through this exciting project, the children learnt that art is a powerful way to express who we are, share our voices and celebrate our differences. We are incredibly proud of their creativity and confidence. What a wonderful way to celebrate Black History Month through art, individuality and self-expression!
