In Year 4, our children explored how sound travels by investigating how vibrations move through different materials. They learned that sound is created when objects vibrate and that these vibrations travel through solids, liquids, and gases to reach our ears. To help them understand this, the children made their own string telephones using two cups and a long piece of string. They discovered that when one person spoke into a cup, their voice created vibrations that travelled along the tightly pulled string to the other cup.
This fun experiment helped them see how sound moves and reinforced their understanding of vibrations in an engaging and practical way
