Our wonderful Year 2 time-travellers had a very character-building trip to the Ragged School Museum, where they were transported straight back to Victorian times — and quickly discovered that iPads were, quite shockingly, not yet invented. During their Victorian school lesson, the children practised perfect posture, recited their answers with impressive seriousness, and learned all about the rather dramatic punishments of the era (don’t worry — strictly pretend!). A few brave volunteers even modelled the famous dunce’s hat, wearing it with unexpected pride and quite a lot of giggling.
The adventure continued in the Victorian kitchen, where the children rolled up their sleeves for some household chores. They discovered that Victorian soap was extremely enthusiastic in smell — so much so that several children suggested it could probably wash the clothes from across the room without even touching them! After a good stir, scrub and sniff (mostly sniff), they decided they were rather fond of modern washing powder. All in all, the children were brilliantly behaved, fully immersed in the experience, and very happy to return to 2026 — where teachers are much kinder and soap smells significantly better!
