Expedition to the North Pole!

As part of our Black History Month provision, Year 1 pupils learnt about Mathew Henson, the first black-American explorer to have reached the North Pole. Pupils re-enacted Henson’s treacherous journey in the icy Arctic, portraying how tiresome and gruelling it was for the human body. Pupils learnt how Henson had developed survival skills from an early age, to enable him and his crew to withstand the awful weather conditions. They also compiled a list of useful items that explorers like Henson would need on a long journey. Can you spot the flag being raised to mark the completion of this expedition?
