VE Day Celebrations in the ARP: A Day of Learning, Creativity and Togetherness

On Thursday 8th May , our ARP came together to mark VE Day in a way that was meaningful, sensory, and joyful for all our learners. The classrooms were filled with red, white, and blue as children explored history, sensory play, and life skills through fun, accessible activities.

Creative & Sensory Crafts
Our learners made beautiful Union Jack flags using tissue paper, glue, and their fine motor skills. These activities helped develop hand-eye coordination while introducing key concepts about Britain’s history. Some learners wrote “VE Day” with adult support, proudly forming letters and numbers with increasing independence.

Biscuit Decorating with a Patriotic Twist
Next came one of the highlights—biscuit decorating! Using red, white, and blue icing, learners expressed their creativity while engaging in sensory exploration. Whether it was spreading, pouring, or tasting, the activity was rich in communication opportunities and hands-on fun.

Picnic-Style Party & Social Learning
We ended the day with a VE Day celebration lunch. Learners shared a picnic-style table setup with classic British finger foods, developing turn-taking, choice-making, and independence. It was a chance for everyone to practise social interaction and enjoy a shared experience in a calm, supportive environment.

Why These Moments Matter
VE Day gave us a platform to blend history, PSHE, communication, and sensory needs into one inclusive celebration. Through carefully adapted activities, our learners connected to the idea of peace, remembrance, and community in ways that felt empowering and fun.
