To bring to a close their English work on Benjamin Zephania’s Windrush Child, and their topic work on Rebuilding Britain after World War II, year 6 prepared short presentations on significant British people of Caribbean origin.
The children were asked to consider the contribution that The Windrush Generation had made to modern-day Britain.
We were treated to well-researched and thought provoking presentations about a broad range of pioneers including, the first black headteacher in England – Yvonne Conolly; the comedian, actor and fundraiser – Sir Lenny Henry; former footballer and football pundit – Ian Wright; authors Andrea Levy and Benjamin Zephahiah; the first black female police officer – Fay Allen; politician Diane Abbott, model Naomi Campbell and athlete Linford Christie.
