We teach French through Purple Mash. Purple Mash is an award-winning cross-curricular website for nursery and primary school children. It enables children to explore and enhance their knowledge in a fun and creative way. At Thomas Arnold we have noticed an increase in interest and enthusiasm by using Purple Mash for teaching French.
The website sees children engaging with open ended tools and educational games that let teachers unique and creative lessons. They are taught key vocabulary by whilst learning the spelling, pronunciation and associating it visually.
We start teaching French from Key Stage 2 with basic vocabulary (Greetings and Numbers) with the intention for the child to be able to express themselves with confidence when they go on the school trip to France in Year 6.
Each context or unit of work is begun with Key Vocabulary taught with pronunciation and leads to applying it to full sentences that can be used in everyday situations.
